Many people have migrated to York and Lancaster Counties, South
Carolina from the metro Charlotte region in the last several
years. The South Carolina State line is only a short drive south
of Uptown Charlotte. Its close proximity to Charlotte, bordering
Lake Wylie, makes this geographical area an excellent place to
live.
Tega Cay Tega Cay, Polynesian for "Beautiful Peninsula" is
located on a peninsula in Lake Wylie, twenty miles south of
Charlotte. This community, originally a resort destination in
the 1970s, has become one of the most desirable places to live.
New development and recreational amenities continue to draw new
residents.
Fort Mill is located along the I-77 corridor in the northernmost
part of South Carolina. The recent growth in this area has been
phenomenal due to its close proximity to the Charlotte
metropolitan area and its numerous educational, recreational and
employment opportunities. Fort Mill Schools are among the best
in the state and perform well above national standards. Much of
the area's history stems from the Catawba Indians, the only
surviving Native American tribe in South Carolina.

Rock Hill, York County's largest city, boasts a population of
over 50,000 residents. Winthrop University has been a Rock Hill
landmark since 1886. This 100-acre tree-lined main campus is
complemented by a nearby 450 acre sports and recreation
facility. The school has an enrollment of more than 5,000
students. Twenty percent of these students are pursuing
postgraduate degrees. Cognetics Real Estate, Inc. predicts that
in terms of employment growth, the overall performance of the
Rock Hill area will be above average relative to other
submarkets in the Charlotte metropolitan area during the next
five years. Noteworthy: Glencairn Gardens, Historic
Brattonsville
Lancaster County is becoming increasingly popular for new
residents of the Charlotte area. Just over the border, south of
the Ballantyne area, this area is an easy commute via Highway
521 to all of Charlotte's shopping, dining and entertainment.
Here you'll find friendly neighborhoods with attractive housing
in every price range. Even with the county's recent development,
this area still offers historic Southern charm and small-town
comfort.
