Established in 1842, Union County is one of the fastest growing
counties in North Carolina. It provides a unique blend of rural
and metropolitan lifestyles. If hiking and horses are your
passion, this is the place, as there are numerous greenways and
trails dotting the county. In fact, Union County is home to the
largest equestrian population in the entire state.
Originally a trading route established by the Waxhaw Indian
settlement in the 1600s, Indian Trail today is a vibrant
community experiencing a lot of newcomers. Its over 12,000
residents can still see the rich heritage of Indian Trail's
farming community, yet signs of residential growth can be seen
all around town. New businesses are choosing to locate in Indian
Trail, adding to the ever-increasing economic vitality.

Monroe, the county seat of Union County has a population of
approximately 30,000 residents. The historic Victorian
Courthouse, built in 1886, sits in central square and draws
attention from every direction near the quaint downtown shops,
restaurants and businesses. Several fountains and small park
areas, tree-lined streets and restored historic homes are all
characteristic of Monroe. This city is home to the Monroe
Regional Airport as well as national and regional corporations.
Stallings is located between Matthews (in Mecklenburg County)
and Indian Trail in Union County. Because of its close proximity
to Mecklenburg County, Stallings has experienced a lot of Union
County's residential growth in the past few years and has a
population of over 9,000 residents.
Waxhaw, a historic yet progressive town, took its name from the
Indian tribe that once lived there in the 1600s. With the
railroad completed to Atlanta in the late 1880s, Waxhaw
experienced prosperity. Today, the town has over 20 antique
shops, several gift shops and dining ranging from small family
owned restaurants to fine dining bistros. Nearby new housing can
be found along NC Highway 75 East and West of Waxhaw, as well as
Highway 16 (Providence Road) North of Waxhaw. Noteworthy:
Queen's Cup Steeplechase, Cane Creek Park, and the Museum of the
Waxhaws
Weddington, located about 15 miles southeast of uptown
Charlotte, has a population of nearly 9,000. The Town of
Weddington started in the 1760's with the first massive
migration of Northerners of European decent. Today, this area
has become a popular residential enclave as Weddington boasts a
rural and friendly atmosphere with larger lots and good area
schools, while still having all of the conveniences of city
living nearby.
