Southeast Charlotte

Why People Want to Live in Southeast Charlotte

Southeast Charlotte was one of the first parts of the city colonized by suburbs. The area is teeming with beautiful, established neighborhoods like CotswoldStonehaven, and Foxcroft, but plenty of new developments are quickly filling up any vacant land available. Perhaps the best part of living in Southeast Charlotte is the access to highways; I-485, I-74 (Independence Blvd.), and main thoroughfare Providence Road are central corridors in this part of town, making it easy to head north and south.

Homeowners in these zip codes tend to enjoy generous, wooded lots and amenities like swim and racquet clubs, some of the best private and public schools in Mecklenburg County, and even gated community living. Providence Road is the unofficial border of Southeast Charlotte and is home to many of the city’s biggest and prettiest churches and Temples, as anyone who’s driven down Providence on a Sunday morning can attest!

Features, Restaurants & Retail of Southeast Charlotte

Although Southeast Charlotte isn’t as densely urban as some of the older infill areas there are still dozens of busy shopping centers, intersections, and stand-alone businesses in the area. Cotswold Shopping Center is the largest in the region and will soon see amenities like a new Publix and maybe even a (rumored) SuperTarget. The Arboretum at Pineville-Matthews Road and Providence has a plethora of stores, dining, and even a movie theater.

Several new planned communities are popping up near the 485 interchanges, too. Waverly and several neighbors will boast single family homes, apartments, and tons of retail and dining options. The eastern border of “Southeast Charlotte” abuts SouthPark Mall and it’s many retail options while smaller developments off Wendover Road add to the mix. On Randolph Road, you’ll find dozens of office complexes and doctor’s offices near Novant Health.

What to Know About Houses for Sale in Southeast Charlotte

This part of Charlotte is known for its “neighborhoods.” Most are named and have signage, and some are even gated. While there are, of course, plenty of stand-alone homes in the zip codes, most people in Southeast Charlotte end up there because they’re looking for a sense of community.

Homes in this area can be brick, ranch or split-level, and are often traditional in style. There are several pockets of luxury homes(*Link to that luxury homes blog post I wrote once it’s live) throughout the corridor that range in the millions of dollars, but at the same time, it’s not uncommon to find plenty of living space in an older community at entry-level prices. Nearly any Charlotte home buyer can find what they’re looking for in Southeast CLT.
